History
Stade Toulousain was officially founded in 1907, from the merger of two student clubs, in a city where students had played rugby since 1890. Unbeaten through 1911-12 — the 'Vierge Rouge' (Red Virgin) — it won its first French title in 1912, five more between 1922 and 1927 and, in an unbeaten 1947, the title and the cup. After long lean years, a style of play launched in 1984 by Robert Bru and carried on by Pierre Villepreux and Jean-Claude Skrela revived it; under Guy Novès it won four titles in a row (1994–97) and the first European Cup, in 1996. It holds the records for French titles (25, the latest in 2026) and European Cups (six). It plays at the Stade Ernest-Wallon at Sept Deniers, built between 1978 and 1982 and owned by the Amis du Stade Toulousain association.
