History
Founded in 1902, the Perpignan club won its first French title on 3 May 1914 as AS Perpignan, 8–7 against Tarbes at Toulouse, when fly-half Aimé Giral converted the winning try; he was killed at the front a few months later, and the ground in the heart of the city bears his name. As US Perpignan it won the finals of 1921, 5–0 against Stade Toulousain at Béziers, and 1925, 5–0 against Carcassonne in a replay, and as USAP those of 1938, 11–6 against Biarritz under captain Jep Desclaux, 1944, 20–5 against Bayonne in Paris, and 1955, 11–6 against Lourdes. It also won the Challenge Yves du Manoir in 1935, 1955 and 1994, and lost nine championship finals between 1924 and 2010. In 1998 the first team became a professional company, the SASP USAP; it reached the European Cup final in 2003 and the semi-finals in 1998 and 2011. On 6 June 2009 it beat Clermont 22–13 at the Stade de France for a seventh title, captained by Nicolas Mas. It won Pro D2 in 2018 and 2021, and since July 2025 the professionals have trained in a new performance centre at the André-Sanac ground.
